The European Commission’s recent news that its vehicles will be equipped with emergency calling technology by October 2015 is an exciting jumping off point for the automotive industry, which is quickly ramping up its adoption of M2M technology and innovation.
Advanced M2M solutions are used to provide value added services including stolen vehicle tracking, pay-as-you-drive auto insurance, parking reservation and concierge services. Audi is integrating a Gemalto Cinterion® LTE solution in its A3 vehicles to enable simultaneous voice and data services, optimized navigation with street level imagery streamed to the vehicle, multimedia streaming and downloads, plus a mobile Wi-Fi hot spot. Advanced services require more than just a connectivity solution.
Gemalto also offers ruggedized MIMs to identify machines to mobile operators and encrypt and secure connectivity, remote management services that give users the flexibility to select optimum service plans and providers and the SensorLogic cloud-based application enablement platform that helps developers and end users quickly integrate big data into backend systems using best practices for a wide range of vertical markets. The future is bright for M2M!
