Logic PD, a product innovation and realisation company specialising in developing connected electronic devices, has invested in and formed a strategic partnership with WellClub, a web- and mobile-based behavioural coaching company. Together, Logic PD and WellClub will help healthcare organisations lower chronic care costs and improve patient health through the integration of behavioural coaching software into technology devices and wearables.
The need for better managing chronic care costs has never been greater. The U.S. alone spends more than $600 billion (€450 bilion) a year on treating the top 10 chronic health conditions, which include heart disease, diabetes and asthma. The Logic PD and WellClub partnership offers a realistic solution that overcomes two current market issues. Too often, wearable devices and exercise equipment are used for some months and then abandoned. And ongoing behaviour intervention by humans is prohibitively expensive and labor intensive.
“Incorporating WellClub capabilities is a clear extension for Logic PD’s offerings as we help customers prepare for the Internet of Things world where everything is connected,” said Bruce DeWitt, president and chief executive officer, at Logic PD. “Healthcare organisations will finally be able to use data generated by wearable devices to effectively address behaviour change around serious healthcare issues.”
Logic PD will incorporate WellClub’s patented low-cost, personalised coaching approach into innovative devices to allow healthcare organisations to offer systematic and track-able health behaviour compliance for treatment regimens, daily lifestyle choices and medication management, among others.
“We are excited to work with Logic PD and take our approach to market,” said WellClub CEO Thomas Brust. “We are the only company that proactively matches peer and professional support with individuals to direct, motivate, and track healthy actions that will lead them to fulfill their health and wellness goals.”
The first project to come from the partnership is anticipated to be launched by the end of 2014.
