Continua expands presence in China and is joined by new Associate Director, Hector Lui

Portland, Oregon, July 8, 2014 – Continua has announced that it is expanding its presence in China, to enhance business development opportunities for its members and promote personal connected health devices and solutions in this important market. Continua also announced that Hector Lui, President, Medipromos, has been named Associate Director, Continua China.

Lui will serve as Continua’s liaison in the local market, working closely with companies to align interests and activities in the personal connected health market. Continua is an international non-profit multi-stakeholder group, and the leading organisation convening global technology industry standards to develop end-to-end, plug-and-play connectivity for personal connected health.

Huang Qing Chun, BDM Manager of Digital Health/IEWA, Intel China, and Chair of Continua’s China Working Group, oversees Continua’s relations with institutions and government agencies throughout China. According to GSMA, China is the global leader in the adoption of M2M technology with over 50 million connections or more than one quarter of the total M2M market in 2013. Close collaboration between the country’s leading mobile operators, state-owned enterprises and the government has enabled the market to grow dramatically in a relatively short period of time, laying the foundations for further expansion and the development of the Internet of Things (IoT).

“We are expanding our presence in China, creating new opportunities and providing an important industry voice for personal connected health with employers, payers, regulatory bodies, government agencies and care providers in that important market,” said Chuck Parker, Executive Director, Continua, and Vice President, Personal Connected Health Alliance. “Continua’s Working Group is very active in supporting end-to-end, plug-and-play connectivity for personal connected health technologies. We are confident that we will continue to make significant progress in expediting the deployment of Continua-ready personal connected health devices and systems to dramatically improve health management, clinical outcomes and quality of life for the citizens of China.”

Hector Lui has over 18 years’ experience in the digital media, technology and semiconductor industries, bringing an innovative and collaborative approach to his work. He has a successful track record working with major companies throughout China and the United States to create online marketing solutions and business strategies.

Continua’s standards-based Design Guidelines ensure Continua certified products and services connect to other products or systems without restrictions or specific implementation. Continua’s 2014 Design Guidelines have been adopted by the ITU as the first global standard for personal connected health devices and systems. Continua also provides free test tools and access to Certified Continua Experts (CCEs) to help members certify their products, and offers a testing and certification program that actively supports technology teams seeking certification. Certified products display a recognisable logo that signifies interoperability according to industry standards.

Continua certification enables more efficient, standardised development and new market opportunities for interoperable products such as smartphones, dedicated wireless hubs, the Internet and personal health devices that can be used to collect and relay vital health information and education.
